Thursday 20th April: Bamidele interview
We interviewed Bamidele Oresajo, ISA trainee (International Seabed Authority):
Who are you?
My name is Bamidele Oresajo and I come from Nigeria. I am a geologist and lecture at the Department of Geology, Federal University Birnin-Kebbi, Nigeria. Currently I am running a PhD focusing on the Cretaceous sedimentary sequences in the Upper Benue trough of North Western Nigeria. My areas of interest includes geochemistry, sedimentology and sequence stratigraphy.
How did you get on board the Pourquoi pas?
I got on board the R/V Pourquoi pas? as a participant of the International Sea-Bed Authority/Ifremer 2017 At-Sea Training Programme. I am joining the Ifremer scientists for the HERMINE Cruise on the French ISA exploration contract along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.
What do you do on baord?
I am part of the Geology team evaluating and analyzing hydrothermal mineralization of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The work includes sample description, subsampling and analysis of mineralogy and chemical composition by XRF and XRD.
What did you learn on the ship?
In summary, I have learnt the technical knowledge and skills of deep-sea mineral exploration.
